This week I made some progress in Blender by starting on a shed structure. It’s not finished yet- I’ve set a base color with a texture image, but I still need to unwrap the texture so it looks more realistic. Chris helped me drop the rough draft of the shed into the game, and now the player can actually walk inside. We’re planning to stash some gear in there for players to find.

Meanwhile, Chris has been deep into animation. This week it’s a fight scene between a guard and a scorpion. He’s already got the scorpion lunging at the guard, though there’s still more work to do.
For those of you who might not be familiar with how animation works in Unity, here’s a simple way to think about it: first, a 3D model (like our guard or scorpion) is set up with a “skeleton,” which is just a set of invisible bones. Those bones can be moved around in different poses-kind of like posing an action figure. Animations are made by stringing together a series of poses to create movement, like a flip book. Unity then plays those animations in the game, so when you press a button, your character runs, attacks, or reacts. Pretty neat!
On a completely different note, we’d like to introduce you to our Chief Morale Officer: Puzzles!

Puzzles adopted us about six years ago and is the inspiration behind the name Dapper Cat Studio. He’s our constant companion, keeping us on track because, well…he has expensive taste.
Puzzles spends his days lounging to good music-he tolerates our Viking death metal, but he’s especially fond of a string quartet. Honestly, we feel so lucky that this cool little cat chooses to hang out with us every day.
That’s it for this week’s update. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and follow along with us-we can’t wait until December when you finally get to play the game for yourself!
Warmest regards,
Alice
